The fine print
Our store policies, plainly put
Short and plain, so you know where you stand before you buy, hold, sell or bring something in. If something isn't covered here, just ask.
Tap a policy to read it.
Sold as-is
Almost everything here is one of a kind and has lived a life already, so all sales are final.
- Look it over before you buy: open the drawers, sit in the chair, turn the lamp on.
- Wear, patina and small marks are part of the story, and they're reflected in the price.
- Not sure about something? Ask us. We'll tell you everything we know about a piece.
- The one exception is jewelry (see below).
Jewelry
Vintage metals can disagree with skin, so jewelry is the one thing that can come back.
- Within 14 days of buying it.
- With your receipt.
- For store credit, not a refund.
- Only if a customer account was set up when you bought it, so we can find your purchase. Ask us to set one up at checkout.
Holds
Need to measure the doorway or borrow a truck? We'll hold a piece for seven days.
- Ask us, and we'll email you a checkout link.
- The piece is reserved for you for seven days. It stays on the floor, so other people can still admire it, but it's yours to buy.
- After seven days the hold ends. The link still works, but the piece is first come, first served again.
- Pay through the link, then pick it up any day we're open, within two weeks of paying.
- If it's still here a week after you pay, we'll send you a reminder.
- Not picked up within two weeks? The piece goes back on the floor and your account gets store credit for what you paid.
Buying online
Some pieces can be bought on our Shop page and collected here. Not everything in the shop is online, so come in to see the rest.
- Online orders are pickup only.
- Pick up within two weeks of buying, any day we're open.
- If it's still here a week after you buy, we'll send you a reminder.
- Not picked up within two weeks? The piece goes back on the floor and your account gets store credit for what you paid.
Pickup only
We don't ship and we don't deliver. Everything leaves through the front door with you.
- Measure your car as well as your room before you come for something big.
- Bring a friend for the heavy pieces.
Need a hand? If a piece is too big for your car, ask at the counter and we'll put you in touch with someone local who moves furniture. A hold gives you seven days to set it up.
Paying
We take:
- Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay.
- Cash.
- UON curate gift cards and store credit.
Gift cards and store credit
Gift cards are sold in the shop and online.
- Digital gift cards and store credit are free.
- A physical gift card costs $2.50 for the card itself, on top of the amount you put on it.
- Gift cards and store credit, whether from a jewelry return, a buying day or an uncollected order, are good for four years from the day they're bought or issued.
- No other fees, ever.
- Use them at the register like cash.
Prices
Prices are as marked.
Furniture and larger pieces sometimes have a little give, especially when we need the floor space. It never hurts to ask.
Donating
Bring donations inside during opening hours and hand them to one of us.
- Please don't leave anything outside the building. Weather and passers-by get to it first, and we may never see it.
- Not sure if we'll take it? Text a photo to 443-267-2687 first.
- If we can't use it, here's where else to take it.
Selling to us
On Community Buying Days we buy from the public outright.
- By appointment. Set up a time.
- We pay 40% of what we'd sell the piece for, in store credit.
- We go through things with you. If we're with other customers, leave them with us and we'll come back to you with an offer.
Consigning
Two kinds of consignment, each with its own short agreement (below).
- Makers and artists consigning their own original work keep 80%, or 90% for original wall-hung work over $400. Are you a maker?
- Goods consignors are established consignors bringing a substantial collection, not single pieces. Consign with us
- How and where consigned pieces are displayed is always our call.
our agreements
Selling, showing, vending or renting with us always starts with one of these short, plain agreements. Read any of them before you commit, and sign online when you're ready.
