About

Thoughtful reuse.

UON curate opened on March 28, 2026, as a secondhand shop with a slower idea behind it: buy fewer things, choose them carefully, and keep good things in use. We look for natural materials (solid wood, wool, cotton, linen, brass) and pieces built well enough to outlast us.

Where we get our stuff

Maryland auctions, estates, local consignors and our own Community Buying Days. It isn't magic, just a lot of driving and a good eye. Where we buy →

How we choose

Would we keep it ourselves? Will it last? Is it made of something real? If the answer is no, it stays at the auction.

Who we work with

Local artists, makers, neighbors in our community, and the trades who keep old things working.

More than a shop

We're also a community space. Classes, swaps, markets and a gallery wall for local makers share the room with the furniture, because a shop in a building like this should be somewhere people gather, not just pass through. UON curate sits under UON collective alongside UON design, our interior design studio.

The sanctuary

A historic church building, still a gathering place.

UON curate fills the 1921 sanctuary of the former Westwood Methodist Episcopal Church. Its congregation built it by hand on donated land, lumber and plans, and Baltimore artist George Wilmer Gettier gave the stained glass. We've arranged the shop around it.

A building born out of that kind of shared effort belongs to its community, and we mean to keep it that way: a place where people gather, make things, trade and learn, not just pass through.

The best way to understand it is to stand under it.
